Memorial Biography

Martha Margarita Sanchez de Ginestra, 91, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, passed away on 05 June 2020. She was born to parents Alfredo Sanchez and Maria Eugenia Gonzalez, on 29 January 1929 in Flushing, NY.   She graduated from NewTown High School in Elmhurst, NY circa 1947. Soon after she left the US to go to Venezuela with her parents who were having a hard time dealing with the cold winters in New York.   Once she got to Venezuela she worked as an Administrative Assistant for several years with the Creole Petroleum Corporation (Exxon) until she left work life to raise her family, giving her best to instill in her children her moral values within the Christian faith.   Martha met Raul Ginestra while working for Creole. They were married on 06/25/1955 in Caracas, Venezuela and together they raised 2 children: Raul Alfredo and Maria Virginia. She lived in Venezuela until 2012, when the country's situation was quickly deteriorating and life was becoming unbearable, especially for the senior population. Martha moved back to the USA, her birth country where she spent the last 8 years of her life. She enjoyed sports, in particular rooting for the NY Yankees and bowling. Along with her husband, they managed to stand out in bowling and had a vast collection of trophies in exhibition in the Caracas house to show for it. She was still playing until the ripe age of 86. Throughout her life, she had countless pets, most of them adopted. She was always a staunch defender of the animals and their rights. She also played the piano, spent time listening to classical music and teaching English to anyone interested in learning. Those who knew her, remember her as cheerful and discreet, always ready to help others. She knew how to treat people with deference so that each one felt appreciated. Sadly, Martha's last 2 months were spent in isolation as the Covid-19 pandemic had started and ravaged the senior population. She is survived by Raul Jr. her son, Virginia, her daughter, Cecilia her daughter in law and Mireya and Marcos her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfredo and Maria Eugenia and her husband Raul. We, her children, grandchildren and other family members, accept her departure with resignation. We will always remember her fondly, convinced that her soul will rest in peace and hoping she will watch over us.
